The K–8 Family Formation program helps parents practice the Catholic faith with their children at home. Parents and their children attend K-8 Family Formation sessions on the first Sunday of the month from 9 to 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception, followed by Mass from 10:30 to 11:30 am. During the sessions, catechists provide curriculum, material, and examples that parents can use at home to help their children learn and grow in the Catholic faith. Catechists also facilitate interactive activities for parents and their children. Catechists should have the ability and desire to work with children; the ability to follow a curriculum; a basic understanding of Catholic teaching, tradition, and scripture; and a desire to grow in and share the Catholic faith. Safe Environment training is required. Each K–8 Family Formation session lasts about 1.5 hours. Catechists also meet for lesson planning as needed. The time commitment is generally six hours per month, including prep time. Session times and locations may vary from year to year, depending on the needs of the ministry.
